Profile Information

Location (City or Town):
MLC School, Burwood; Sydney, Australia
About Me or Reason for Joining the GEC:
I am a buddhist training to be ordained working in a Uniting Church school. Go figure?

I am interested in exploring ways to break down boundaries between 'subject' areas and have true integration.

The concept of collaboration, of doing more than just sharing resources, is a key goal in my teaching practice.

I also question the 'more is more' approach to schooling - if we offer more co-curricular subjects we somehow create a more whole being. Is this always true? The necessity to Relax and Reflect on learning and, more importantly, to take Responsibility for it are the new 3 R's that I hope to champion in my classes.
Favorite Education Resources:
Children's novels that have been invaluable in my teaching and learning...

'The Phantom Tollbooth' by Norton Juster.
'Momo' by Michael Ende
'The Great Good Thing' by Roderick Towney

' Only connect..."

' Spoon feeding is the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon. ' – E. M. Forster

Re-entry

Returning from three and a bit weeks of introspection as part of an early mid-life crisis to an active classroom is challenging. Nevertheless, that time sitting in Parisian cafes watching the people watching the people and shoveling mud from my tent in the wilds of Somerset has prepared me to be with the Ugandan Christian group dancing and singing up a storm this morning. Seeing them dance and sing and rise their hearts in praise prompts me to ask the question - 'What is the role of joy in the… Continue

Do we make a difference to the world?

It is fascinating how little change one can make in the lives of students! Despite over a month of exploring the Greenhouse Effect through experiments, creating animations, designing posters, participating in Earth Hour activities, watching 'An Inconvenient Truth', reading the EPA website, discussion and personal affirmations, the class can still leave the windows and doors open with the lights and airconditioner going when they leave the room.

What can we do to move this learning… Continue

Hi buddy! Finally got a spare second to check out this thing further. Think this might be a good place to start gsorting my head out as far as work goes. Sweden is a great place to teach so far. I'm teaching grade 2, beggers can't be choosers or something like that AND I just love it. Notice you about quite a bit on facebook these days too. I'm just curbing my addiction to that now too. See you round friend
