Blackboard Collaborate - Is Mac OSX 10.7 officially supported?
Answer -
Apple recently announced the General Availability of OSX 10.7 (aka Lion) for Mac users. Blackboard Collaborate has not yet had the opportunity to validate the use of any of our solutions with OSX 10.7 yet so it is not currently a part of the officially supported client environments. We do, however, recognize that many Mac users will quickly upgrade and many new Macs with 10.7 will be purchased soon, necessitating us to complete a testing cycle so that we can officially support this customer platform.
A few important notes:
MacOSX 10.7 does not come with Java WebStart (JWS) pre-installed. It does, however, provide a step-by-step process for users to follow to install JWS when they encounter an application (like Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing) that requires it. Users with administrative rights to their Mac have found this process to be easy to do. If you are having problems with the automatic process, please click here to investigate the Java for OS X Lion installation.
Web Conferencing – While unsupported, many users are using Elluminate Live! V10, Blackboard Collaborate 11 and Wimba Classroom web conferencing successfully with OSX 10.7.
Previous issues regarding Mac OS X 10.7 and application sharing have been addressed with the most recent update to Elluminate Live! V10 and Blackboard Collaborate 11 on September 24, 2011.
Instant Messaging - While unsupported, many users are using Blackboard IM with OSX 10.7 and it’s working well. There is a known issues with hosting an app share from the machine running OSX 10.7 which we will seek to resolve in an optional Blackboard IM maintenance release.
Voice Authoring- While unsupported, we do not anticipate that OSX 10.7 will cause any difficulties with using the Wimba Voice/Voice Authoring solution.
As always, please report any problems that you have using our solutions to Support.
