Every week I publish a Weekly Update newsletter for the teachers in my school. I am trying to help them see what podcasts and blogs are out there and how they can do it with their kids. I had difficulty the last weeks finding good student made podcasts. I am probably searching in the wrong places. I have used David Warlick's EPN (Educational Podcast Network), but many of those are from years past and have not continued. I am looking forward to hearing about yours and listening to it.

Thanks Aleksandra! I enjoyed listening to them. I especially thought Janet Branstable's comment that when talking to someone in another country it means a lot when you try to speak their language rather than always expecting them to speak yours. I know that those of us who speak English (especially Americans) are very guilty of that.

You're so right, Janice. We expect everyone to learn English. In the mid 90's a Japanese teacher taught me a few phrases in Japanese and was so happy whenever I would use them.

Kids, on the other hand are thrilled to learn some words in other languages. One of the best Skype conferences we had last year was with a school in Croatia, where they taught us how to count. We recorded it and the kids practiced for the next time.
I have been traveling to different places in the summer because of my husband's work. After trying to learn Greek and Turkish and failing miserably I pretty much put no effort in on Hebrew and Arabic this summer. It was just too much and I was embarrassed. Your words encouraged me that even a word or two means something, so I will do better!

I did understand some words of Greek on your Cyprus podcast and that made me feel good! Next year we are back to Corinth, Greece. I will be ready! :-)

If you are interested check out the blogs from the summer trips. This summer was http://2010-sharing.blogspot.com and it has links to the other ones.
Janice, I also work with Marsh Goren (in Israel) who in the coordinator for Global Dreamers.

One of the things we do on the site is 'share' our towns, cities, countries. Could we link you blogs? They are super!

Janet
