Short Session Description (one line): Educating Haitians on Agriculture Sustainability

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): By 2050 it is estimated that there will be nine billion people on earth. The big question is "How are we going to feed all those people?" The answer is not in improving crop production in developed countries but rather encouraging and developing agriculture production in developing countries. Few countries will encounter the issues of agriculture sustainability as Haiti. Over the past century, their land has been deforested and the bare hillsides completely eroded by torrential rains. Haitian agriculture needs to be rebuilt one small step at a time.

Brillion, WI high school is sending two students to work through Pens for Hens in providing a small portable pen. three laying hens, education on raising hens and using them in a garden and using eggs to improve the diet of Haitian children. The group is targeting 100 Haitian families near Mireabalis, Haiti to attend seminars and receive pens and hens.

The Brillion students are spearheading fundraising efforts and will use tablets to document the seminars and communicate to other students back in Wisconsin depicting the poverty, challenges and success stories in Haiti.
