I think it is a wonderfull idea for those of us who are out here working on it to establish a broad curriculum to teach Globalization to students around the world using technology. I have been in touch with teachers and students from all over the planet and they are waiting for us to take the lead. Lets start by defining Globalization. Everyone please start sending in their definitions and we will collectivley agree on one. Then we can begin to set up a list of objectives base on the fundamnetal knowledge are students should have on the subject. We could use Bloom's Taxonomy as a guide from basic knowledge to analysis and synthesis.

2010 HASTAC/MacArthur Foundation Digital Media and Learning Competition

We are pleased to announce that all information regarding the 2010 international HASTAC/MacArthur Foundation Digital Media and Learning Competition—including detailed category explanations and guidelines, critical deadlines, application materials, etc.—is now available at www.dmlcompetition.net.

The theme of this year's Competition is Reimagining Learning and there are two types of awards: 21st Century Learning Lab Designers and Game Changers.

Aligned with National Lab Day as part of the White House's Educate to Innovate Initiative, the 21st Century Learning Lab Designer awards will range from $30,000-$200,000. Awards will be made for learning environments and digital media-based experiences that allow young people to grapple with social challenges through activities based on the social nature, contexts, and ideas of science, technology, engineering and math.

The Game Changers category—undertaken in cooperation with Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) and Electronic Arts (EA), Entertainment Software Assocation, and the Information Technology Industry Council—will award amounts ranging from $5,000-$50,000 for creative levels designed with either LittleBigPlanet™ or Spore™ Galactic Adventures that offer young people engaging game play experiences and that incorporate and leverage principles of science, technology, engineering and math for learning.

Each category will include several Best in Class awards selected by expert judges, as well as a People’s Choice Award selected by the general public. The online application system will open on January 15 and will include three rounds of submissions, with public comment at each stage.

Please see www.dmlcompetition.net for all details.

The Academy for Educational Development (AED) is pleased to announce the application for the 2010-2011 cycle of the Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching program. This particular Fulbright program is sponsored by The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the U.S. Department of States, and it is admin...istered by AED in coordination with ECA in Washington, DC.

The Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching program seeks to attract highly qualified and experienced K-12 teachers from the United States and eight other participating countries (see list below). The main focus of the program is to provide an opportunity for teachers to conduct a variety of professional development activities during a three to six month period.

Selected and approved teachers will:
1. Enroll in graduate level classes at a host university
2. Complete a "capstone" project which will be practical in nature and relevant to trends in teaching and learning practices
3. Design and give lectures and/or workshops for host country teachers
4. Observe and assist with classes in host country local schools
5. Engage in other teaching related activities

At the completion of the Fulbright grant, teachers from the United States will be expected to share the knowledge and experience gained in other countries with their students and colleagues at their home schools and communities.

Participating countries for the 2010-2011 Distinguished Awards in Teaching program are: Argentina, Finland, India, Israel, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom (U.K.)

NOTE: Teachers from the community college and university levels in the United States can apply for the grant in Mexico and the United Kingdom.

February 15, 2010: Application deadline: U.S. Teacher must send documents to the AED office.

I would LOVE ideas for hands-on projects, films, as a way to stimulate and assess learning. This is a semester-long course. I'm excited, but would sure benefit from any expertise and/or ideas.
Thanks!

I just joined this community. I teach in the special education department, with students who are largely mainstreamed throughout the day, with an hour or so of daily support. I'm teaching a new class with students having weaker academic skills. The class is Contemporary World Studies, and there is little in terms of "curriculum". I'm teaching it as a "basic skills" course - note taking from the text, from a lecture, maps and time lines - all in the context of

I direct a non-profit with a mission to support persons with disability and K-12 education. Special education is at their intersection and of special interest. My organization is the Enabling Support Foundation We am working on two projects which I think are consistent with the goals of a global curriculum.

We are developing a site on comparative Special Education. What are differences throughout the world in how students with physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities are treated? This project has just begun but there is a Cross Cultural center on the ESF website and a forum for its discussion.

The second project is student oriented. It is an examination of the mythologies, architecture, art and culture of ancient civilizations. It is not so much a project but a series of resources that can be used to create a multitude of projects. You can see these resources at http://teachersconnecting.com/?q=node/755

We welcome collaboration.

Greetings! I'm a new member of the GEC and this is the first group I've joined. I work as an EFL educator in a primary school in Vienna, Austria. Currently I'm doing an MA in Intercultural Competencies and for my thesis writing a global education handbook for other EFL educators in the Vienna public school system. I'm especially interested in finding EFL/ESL resources which have a global perspective and suitable for children learning English. Please let me know if you have any ideas. I'm excited to learn about what the other members are doing around the world.

Thanks-
Janice
