International Education Advisory Board Member Roles

International advisory board members are expected to take an active role in support the Global Education Conference. Activities can include:

  • Actively helping with outreach efforts for the 2011 conference
    • Publicizing the conference within your own institution
    • Reaching out to ministries of education and universities in your home country
    • Utilizing social media to distribute conference materials such as videos and digital posters
    • Adding conference badges to your social media profiles
  • Volunteering to moderate conference sessions
  • Serving as a "super volunteers"
    • This entails taking a 3-5 hour shift and overseeing moderation efforts and the conference lounge
    • Checking on all the upcoming session rooms 30 - 60 minutes before the session start to communicate with session presenters as they arrive.
    • Determining the level of help needed by a presenter (asking them!), then making assignments in the volunteer "lounge" to join specific sessions.
    • Helping troubleshoot problems--don't worry, don't let this scare you. We'll have an FAQ for common problems (slide deck too big, etc.), and we will have additional folks to whom you can go to for help.
    • Contact Steve if you want to be a super volunteer at hargadon@gmail.com
  • Providing suggestions for keynotes in a timely fashion prior to conferences
  • Adding resources to the conference wiki
  • Attending collaborative planning meetings

I am putting together a series of international projects for a project based learning school and we would love to do some cooperative ventures with other global groups. Our goal is to model the use of wiki's, blogs, and social media. We have access to a variety of technological tools that allow us synchronous and asynchronous activities.

I am excited to be a part of the advisory board and would  love to help in any way necessary.

I use the square icon and that works! Otherwise, try Photoshop or another image editor!

Hi, the badges for the social media profiles. specifically for twitter and linkedin are too big.  When I resized the writing/print is too small to read.  Any suggestions on how to fix?

Besides people I know in West Africa and Europe I have invited some of my colleagues here in the USA and I hope they will check the conference out.

Greetings Advisory Board Members -

We're counting on you to help us get the word out about the conference this week. Please use social media to let people know and to carry on the virtual conversations!

We also have a few resources to help you spread the word in this collection located on Scribd, including a new GlobalEdCon guide. Make sure to also check out the conference trailer by Adina Popa and tutorials by Chris Smith, located on our conference video page

In other news, two documentaries will be available for people to watch on their own during the conference week. The directors of these films will be keynote speakers during the week. For those of you who are fans of the Wonder Years, Carol Black is the creator of this show!  Thanks for advisory board member Monika Hardy for connecting us with Carol.

Another new feature for the conference will be Lucy's Lounge, a drop-in room where participants can drop in to learn more about global education resources. People can pitch projects, learn about other people's projects, get a tour of our conference wiki and the Global Education Collaborative, etc. If you're looking to network, this will be the place to be.

Finally, I'm slowly adding advisory board members to this Twitter list: https://twitter.com/#!/globaledcon/advisory-board-2011. This makes it really easy for me to see a part of the outreach of our board. If you'd like to be added to this, please send me the URL to your profile, not just your Twitter name. EXAMPLE: http://twitter.com/elemenous.  My email address is elemenous@gmail.com.

Thank you so much for your help so far! Steve and I look forward to "seeing" you online this week.
