The collaborative work of neuroscience and education is gaining new insights onto how we learn and how we can maximize our performance as 21st century citizens. This work is giving educators a “GPS” to understand the impact of new pedagogical strategies in helping students’ learning. The presenter will cover ultimate brain facts and will introduce participants to a collection of thinking strategies to promote understanding and learning beyond the classroom.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Over the past few decades, education has been devoted to conquer knowledge through understanding. There is a growing awareness of the importance of encouraging higher thinking skills to seek out individual and collective learning. On this session, Presenter will share a brief summary of neuroscience new insights and how those have shaped new strategies for learning and developing thinking skills for live. Presenter will share young children’s work and their experience using thinking tools like the ones from Visible Thinking approach from Harvard University and TOCfE from four preschools in Florida. Participants will explore the power of documentation, thinking routines and concept maps when making thinking visible in the classroom and using a Thinking Based Program as a pedagogical strategy from early childhood on.
