Students and the Digital Classroom: better learners today, productive lives tomorrow
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Academics are important, but there’s a much broader skill set today’s students need to master. Called 21st Century/Digital Age, or digital literacy skills, activities that introduce and reinforce these abilities must be interwoven throughout the curriculum. Learn about frameworks that identify strategies you can use to help students achieve mastery.
Learning Outcomes:
Just teaching the standards is no longer enough. In a quickly evolving world, students must possess technical skills and other abilities to be competitive in this environment. The question for educators is how can we go beyond the standards and also provide complex problem solving, creative thinking and collaboration within the school day so students have what it takes to be global citizens? To do this, educators need a plan. In this session attendees will be introduced to the SWIM Grid for technology planning. The SWIM (School Wide Integration Model) Grid method covers 4 areas: 1) professional development 2) student’s skills 3) curriculum integration and 4) infrastructure improvements. Although all 4 areas are critical, providing better opportunities for our student’s futures should be a high priority and the use of technology will allow for innovative methods in which to go beyond the standards and to employ 21st Century learning plans.
