Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
CTC International’s philosophy is derived from Ubuntu – I am because we are. It is the belief that regardless of our place in the world we are all interconnected. It is in that spirit that Rafiki Link was born, CTC International’s technology based program that connects youth in Maai Mahiu, Kenya with youth around the globe!
Since Rafiki Link’s inception in 2008, cross-cultural communication and relationships have been the focus of the program. The philosophy remains, however, our focus is moving towards equipping all students involved in the program with the tools necessary for our modern world.
For the coming year, through semester-long collaboration on a publication, youth will build skills of critical thinking, communication and creativity - gaining global awareness at the same time!
Students are given the supplementary tools needed for higher learning and a globally competitive workforce.
By collaborating with their peers online, topics are agreed upon and over the next few weeks, students go to work using computers, the internet and good old fashioned reporting to write articles for a newsletter to be published towards the end of the semester.
Throughout the process, Kenyan and North American students use the blog to keep track of their activities and capture their growth and development for themselves.
Critical evaluation of information, brainstorming, communication of new ideas across cultures, openness to different perspectives, and working in diverse teams are some of the many benefits of the program.
We look forward to discussing the evolution of the program and how we envision its future. We can’t wait to hear from you too!
