Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
For our service learning project, we have been working with a group of orphaned children whose mothers were prostitutes. These children are now living in a centre where they sleep, eat, work and play. Some of them have been reunited with their families, after their mothers have been taken off the street. There are many mothers, who have decided to change their life around, and go back to school, get a job and support their families again. These children are very vulnerable as they have seen horrendous things. The first time we went, we painted their wall with a logo, the second time we planted grass and painted tyres and played with the children. In order for Project Purpose to bee successful, they need funds. It all starts with us. By going there, we have given these children the attention and love that they need. They have been robbed from their childhood, and we are fighting to get it back. Join us as we describe students can impact an entire community.

Permalink Reply by Sharon Brown-Peters on November 1, 2011 at 2:54am Hi Gayle,
This conference seeks to do more than what you stated:
The conference seeks to present ideas, examples, and projects related to connecting educators and classrooms with a strong emphasis on promoting global awareness, fostering global competency, and inspiring action towards solving real–world problems.
How are my students better able to showcase this amazing project to a global audience that deals with implications of human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, poverty, Education for All, prostitution and empowerment for women in a recovering nation? They are currently creating multimedia artifacts to broadcast the needs and developments of this project, not just for this conference but our school and larger city community. Our school is in an isolated part of Africa. We are using ICT to make the connection to the "outside world". As someone who has visited this project, I must tell you it is the MOST inspiring of all the projects with which our school is affiliated.
Students in most other parts of the developed world would never have this kind of opportunity to not only see the brutal reality of these global issues, but have an opportunity to share this fine initiative with a larger audience.
By the way, I see that your name is on the list to vet NA proposals. Am I mistaken?
Best regards, Sharon
