Area of the World from Which You Will Present: Australia
Language in Which You Will Present: English
Target Audience(s): Teachers, teacher educators
Short Session Description:
Learn about where curriculum, gaming and social values come together for children aged 9-15 in the global Quest Atlantis Program for schools.
Full Session Description:
As one of the learning encounters, Quest Atlantis has developed a series of playable fictions as part of its virtual world game architecture. In these playable fictions students take on expert roles and become part of a game narrative working to solve authentic real world challenges. Their knowledge, decisions and actions create consequences that impact on the virtual world environment and change the virtual world. The game elements are designed as opportunities for learners to explore how knowledge and how we use it can change impact on our world. The aim is for students to take these ingame experiences and transfer their knowledge and skills to solve problems in the local and real world activities.
Quest Atlantis is an online game offered to students about the globe, free of charge. There is no cost to join the program, just a commitment from teachers to train in our local or online training in how to use this inquiry learning program. The program is supported by Indiana and Arizona State Universities and committed teachers in 28 countries around the world. Some of those teachers will join the session as teacher-mentors to speak about their implementation of the program in their schools and how our Edublog 2010 award winning teacher community supports teacher learning and skill building.
