Short Session Description (one line): This session aims at examining the role of on-line Community of Practice (COP) in order to enhance professional development of ELT teachers.

Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

On-line Communities for Professional Development of the Networked Teachers

Technology has a huge impact on education and in some regions of the world teachers are caught unguarded due to lack of professional training in this aspect.Teachers may find themselves at a disadvantage if they lack adequate proficiency of using technology in their own teaching.

This session will focus on virtual communities of professionals that are formed to meet the emerging educational challenges presented by new technologies by bringing geographically disributed  educators and their expertise together. After a brief introduction involving definition and aims of virtual communities of practice, the presenter will exemplify some networks which ensure opportunities of professional development and provide collegial support by outlining resources, illustrating real-life examples of technological integration into classroom, sharing knowledge and repertoire.

The session will examine the contribution of digital technologies to teacher development by focusing on teacher networks which provide activities for exploratory-inquiry-based learning and web-pages with teacher resources tailored for blended learning. Variety of online communities and web applications that assist teachers to learn with digital technologies will be showcased.

Dear Rleina,

I don't speak Spanish but as far as I have understood yyou are doing a project about Community of Practice. I participated on several on-line courses that were provided by on-line communities and I am very much interested how they impact teacher developent. Yes, please let's keep in touch.
