Short Session Description (one line): US student empowerment in education policy in South Sudan is causing idea generation and creative approaches to education.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
In South Sudan, the newest country in the world, there is a lot of excitement. Francis Bok spoke at Gordon College (where I am an undergrad junior IA major). He is a former slave and appealed to the student body to help give the children of S. Sudan the educational opportunities he never had. I was moved, as were a lot of my friends. We want to get as much brainpower from around the world to help the S. Sudanese design their new education system. I will present on the challenges faced and the ideas to transform education in South Sudan. I also started a non-profit called The World School in high-school. We send student teams to schools in developing countries to build libraries and classrooms. I will also present on how to get students like me pumped about education and the value of having students in the education policy conversation.
