Target Audience(s): driven students, creative teachers, innovators in education, South Sudanese nationals

Short Session Description (one line): US student empowerment in education policy in South Sudan is causing idea generation and creative approaches to education.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

In South Sudan, the newest country in the world, there is a lot of excitement. Francis Bok spoke at Gordon College (where I am an undergrad junior IA major). He is a former slave and appealed to the student body to help give the children of S. Sudan the educational opportunities he never had. I was moved, as were a lot of my friends. We want to get as much brainpower from around the world to help the S. Sudanese design their new education system. I will present on the challenges faced and the ideas to transform education in South Sudan. I also started a non-profit called The World School in high-school. We send student teams to schools in developing countries to build libraries and classrooms. I will also present on how to get students like me pumped about education and the value of having students in the education policy conversation.

Thanks for your submission to present at the 2011 Global Education Conference. In order for your proposal to appear in the correct strand, you must tag it with anyone of these labels to reflect the Teacher, Student, Curricular or Policy strands: 2011Teacher, 2011Student, 2011Curricular, 2011Policy. It is fine to use multiple tags if you’d like, but you must select at least one. To edit your proposal, go to your proposal page and click on the Options button. Select Edit Discussion, and add your tags in the tag field below the body of your message. Make sure to click on Save when you are finished editing.
Since you did not tag your proposal as requested below, I'm tagging it 2011policy.
