Session Title:
Is Technology Disabling or Enhancing Critical Thinking & Learning Skills for Children?
Presenters:
Norah Goldman, Consultant and Anne Aherne-Daly, Head of School
School or organization:
IP Raleigh & Technolio, Inc.
Country from which we present:
USA
Language in which we will present:
English
Target audience:
All parents, educators & administrators
Short session description:
The session will discuss how critically important it is to have technology integrated in a child's curriculum in order to enhance and enable "higher learning" skills. Technolio is a multicultural, children's educational app company that specializes in connecting various language translations, critical thinking and preschool developmental skills to solving real-world problems at their age.
In collaboration with the International Preschool of Raleigh, we are conducting an experiment based on a specific app about Fire Safety and Rescue that will measure what children know before using the app or other forms of technology, what they have learned after using the app and what they will retain a couple weeks post app usage.
The conference seeks to present ideas, examples, and projects related to connecting educators and classrooms with a strong emphasis on promoting global awareness, fostering global competency, and inspiring action towards solving real–world problems.

Thanks for your message. I updated the description but would also like to reply to you as well:

Unless companies are a sponsor, for profits cannot present in the regular strands of the conference.
We have created a special sponsored by Cisco strand for companies wishing to demonstrate global technology-driven innovation. It has additional requirements and if you go this route, you need to add the tag for this strand to your proposal. If you decide to go this route, please follow the directions posted here: Innovation Perspectives with GETideas
Also, all proposals must touch on our global focus as outlined in our mission statement: Our Mission
Thanks,
Lucy

I guess I am a bit unclear since last year my understanding is that many companies were presenting.
We are collaborating with a very well known and respected school (the International Preschool of Raleigh) and Anne Aherne-Daly (Head of School) would be presenting. I am just the consultant who will help support the presentation as the company whose app Anne has used as part of this topic. Does that work?
I did follow the directions for the 2012GetIdeas submission as well so I apologize for any misunderstandings but I am not sure what else I need to do in order to be able to secure a presentation slot.
Best,
Norah
Permalink Reply by Lucy Gray on October 29, 2012 at 7:12pm If you are representing a for profit company and promoting a commercial product, that company needs to either sponsor, or the company can apply to be part of the GETideas strand. Or, you can remove the commercial references and just apply as an educator and an administrator. So, if GETideas is where you want to be, then we're good. Just making sure people understand the difference.
We have a lot of small start ups who've wanted to participate, but lack funds to sponsor. So, we found funding for a strand that would that would support their work.
Hope this makes sense!

We've posted this Commercial Participation page which may explain our policies a bit better.
I can accepted this proposal if you remove commercial references. Please let me know if you've made the changes by tonight.
Thanks,

Thanks for your reply and I really appreciate the thorough follow through and attention you have provided me.
As a consultant for Technolio, we have decided to apply for the GetIdeas session since they are interested in raising some brand awareness about their important and fun educational apps.
I thank you in advance for helping me navigate through the site. I have been in touch with Tony Wan and am hoping to get acceptance on our presentation through that arena.
Best regards,
Norah

Can you tag this proposal with "2012GETIdeas" instead?
Thanks,
Tony

Your tag should read 2012GETideas instead of GETIDeas2012. This is why I didn't find your proposal when evaluating them today. I'll fix it manually right now for you.

I know the conference has started and you must be swarmed with messages and questions. I have been reading through all the training materials, checklists, etc. and want to make sure that I am prepared for my presentation on Thursday at 10am EST.
I am co-presenting and will be in the same room with my presenter. I plan to send you an updated PPT tomorrow evening with the results from our experiment (as two of our slides were blank waiting for this data).
Once I send it to you and you change it back to the accepted version, do you have the presentation uploaded to the blackboard collaborative for us or do I do this? If so, I am unaware of how / or where the instructions are for this.
Please advise and good luck this week!
Best regards,
Norah
