Reach the World shares best practices for teaching global education using technology-supported learning in the urban classroom identified through student assessments developed in partnership with Teachers College, Columbia University as part of the HP Catalyst Innovations in Education Fund.


Full Session Description (one paragraph minimum):

Competing conceptualizations of globalization and global education present challenges for K-12 curricula and pedagogy. Teachers and students, parents, administrators and politicians can all define global competence in a different and meaningful way. These competing conceptualizations of globalization and global education present challenges in K-12 education. This workshop identifies key practices for teaching global competence in an urban classroom based on research conducted by Reach the World (RTW) with the support of Teachers College, Columbia University researchers and the HP Catalyst Initiative and shares valuable insights as to how students' define global competence and what skills they identify as key for good international collaboration.

Hi Tonia -

I'm looking forward to this presentation. We were recently contacted by an NPR program that specializes in diversity issues and this sounds right up their alley. They were going to do a segment on this conference, but then had other priorities due to the election. Anyway, we may work with them on a STEM conference like this, and HP probably will be involved. So just keep this on your radar!

Additional proposal materials are required for the GETideas strand at the Global Education Conference. Please review our documentation and make sure you submit these items to EdSurge by Sunday, November 4th at 9 AM CT, GMT-6. This is a firm deadline if you'd like to be considered for this event.

Hello Lucy,

Sorry I did not reply earlier to this thread! I did receive an email from EdSurge and should be all set. 

My title displays funny on the listing, but not when you click the link (the header is included as part of the title). Do you know how to fix that? 

I am excited for the presentation as well. The past two years have been very interesting working on this project and this is actually the first time we are presenting so I am very happy to have the opportunity to share! Tonia
