Full Session Description (as long as you would like):  DeforestACTION is an environmental education program connecting students around the world to learn about, and take action on, the pressing issue of deforestation using innovative, online collaborative technologies.  Since 2010, DeforestACTION has connected over 18,000 youth and students on environmental learning and action. During this session, we will share the global learning opportunities associated with DeforestACTION, which engages students in project-based learning about deforestation and environmental sustainability. By showcasing the DeforestACTION educational resources, social media and technology tools, you can learn more about this opportunity to help students develop global competencies through international collaborations. In this session, we will:

  • Explore our virtual learning platform, online educational resources and lessons plans designed for student-led learning experiences;
  • Browse the DeforestACTION online communities designed for students to collaborate globally and share their work;
  • Navigate through our various technology tools, including Earthwatchers, where students across the planet can monitor forests via satellite imagery;
  • Watch clips of student-produced videos using social media that highlight their accomplishments through DeforestACTION
