Session Title:

Creativity and Conflict: Humanizing the World through Art and Technology

Your Name and Title:

Jennifer D. Klein, Global Education Consultant

School, Library, or Organization Name:

PRINCIPLED Learning Strategies

Co-Presenter Name(s):

None

Country from Which You Will Present:

USA

Language in Which You Will Present:

English

Target Audience:

K-12 teachers and administrators

Short Session Description (one line):

Rather than turning to the arts for consolation after global tragedies, educators need to start using the arts to avoid global tragedies and humanize the world for young people.  Our students need avenues for the expression of their ethnicity, perspectives and strong opinions, and global education which embraces the creative and digital arts allows students to connect across cultural and political boundaries in increasingly powerful ways.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

We are seeing the rapid disappearance of the arts in education across North America, and it comes with a serious global price. As technology makes it easier for students to share their creative work and collaborate on artistic projects, educators have the opportunity, in the words of Palestinian poet Falastine Dwikat, to build bridges “from heart to heart, from word to word, and from line to line.”

This session will explore artistically-focused global projects from a variety of countries, organizations and programs.  Attendees will leave the session with ideas for classroom activities, significant projects, and avenues for finding global partners, programs, technological platforms and resources.

Hi Jennifer,

Great ideas. I'll be spreading the word at school for people to join the conference and to link in to your presentation. We all like something with practical elements on how to do it!

Cheers,

Jo Corrigan, Australia.

Thank you for your note, Jo, and for encouraging your network to attend my session.  It'd be great to have some Australian voices in the mix, and I'm all about offering something teachers can really use after the presentation!

Looking forward to it,

Jennifer, Denver (USA)

Dear Jenifer
I am a parent homeschooling three very artistic children. Because of the homeschooling scenario, their audience usually consists of mum, dad and maybe a visiting family friend. I look forward to joining your sessions to see if I can create a more global (serious) audience for my childrens 'creations'.
I also look forward for finding avenues to make a difference with their creativity. I know it will encourage them greatly if they feel they are working towards a betterment.

I am looking forward to you session.

Clare Diederichs, Mozambique

Thank you for your note, Clare--sorry it took me a week to get it to the top of my pile!  I look forward to the session and appreciate your interest--you will definitely get ideas for audiences and themes which should allow you to nurture your children's artistic nature and urge to create change through creativity.  "See" you in the session in a few weeks, and thanks for appreciating the topic!
